History of Object In 1947 Howard Worner as 'Director' and Professor in waiting for chair in metallography was sent on a promotional tour to UK, USA etc. He visited the University of Manchester, spent time at Washington University and was very impressed with the American way. He had previously modeled the Australian Bureau on American lines. Framed photos were collected by HFA from junk when the Australian Bureau of Dental Standards 'lab' moved to Canberra. Photograph of a gathering at Professor Reade's farm 'Bullangbrook', Professor Atkinson in hat and yellow jumper, Reade at left of fire. History of Object Dr. R. W. Shepherd announced his retirement a matter of weeks before the end of the year, it was a complete shock to all concerned; as deputy head he was expected to carry on. "I remember similar surgeries which were a front room in the family home. All equipment is portable. Note 'Monarch of the Glen' over the fire. When I visited in June 2002 it was as depicted with roaring coal fire. The gas cylinders look modern, white paint for O2. Face mask appears to be 'oiled silk'". (Professor Henry Atkinson). All three were senior lecturers in the Department of Prosthetics - named changed and combined with Conservative Department to become Restorative Dentistry. History of Object Keith Faulkner was a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer on staff of the Prosthetics Department. He came from Queensland where he was working on a radiation dental tissue project which could not be continued. Changed to 'materials' study and then under Professor H.F. Atkinson, to mandibular movement. He transferred to hospital staff and then completed writing his thesis. He was a hospital employee at the time of his graduation. Atkinson. This series of portraits was put together by Professor John Harcourt. Dr. Sheperd was 'First Assistant' in the Australian College of Dentistry when Professor Atkinson arrived in 1958. Professor Henry Atkinson was responsible for appointing Tad as Dean of the Faculty and a respect and friendship developed. "He was a perfectionist and loyal colleague doing much for the School". Brief Description Two black and white photographs, (A & B) of a rubbing of the foundation stone of the College and Dental Hospital building at 193 Spring Street, Melbourne. History of Object Rubbings were made by Dr. W. J. Tuckfield most probably to try out the technique of 'Rubbing'. He could have taken a close up photograph, having taken many photographs of both the interior and exterior of the building.
