Brief Description

Combined stomach pump and enema syringe consisting of a metal syringe, tubes, ivory nozzles and other accessories. There is also a wooden box with a molded interior to house the components. The syringe is marked Mayer and Meltzer Makers, London.

Combined stomach pump and enema syringe. Has two ivory metal enema tubes, one oesophageal pipe, a vulcanite mouth gag and long enema stomach tube with metal cylinders. Wooden case with maroon velvet lining.

On both stomach pump and enema: "S MAW SON & THOMPSON LONDON/TRADE MARK".

Brief Description

Combined stomach pump and enema syringe, 2 oesophageal tubes, vulcanite mouth-gag, 2 enema tubes, 4 bone rectum pipes, wooden cone-shaped instrument for treating prolapsed piles, metal cylinder attachment for pump/enema apparatus, all in mahogany case. Brass apparatus with bone handle and "flute key" lever.

History of Object

This item was originally donated to the Medical Society of Victoria (which later became part of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association). The A.M.A. donated its historical collection of documents and artifacts to the University of Melbourne's Medical History Museum in 1994.

Combined stomach pump and enema syringe with bone handle and flute key lever, 1 enema tube, 2 oesophageal pipes, vulcanite mouth gag and wooden cap, 2 bone rectum pipes, cylinder attachment for stomach pump/enema apparatus, 6 needles and 1 canula, in mahogany case with purple velvet lining and key.

History of Object

This kit was originally used by Dr. George Thomas Howard (1856-1934) and were donated by Mr. Alan Willey to the University of Melbourne's Medical History Museumin August 1995.
