Brief Description

Plate negative of the only known photograph of H.J. Grayson with his microruling engine, before minor modifications were made to vernier wheel. Kept in Kodak cardboard box. Also large black and white photo of same.

History of Object

The only known negative of Grayson. It was taken by William Stone and the plate negative found at the same time as the microruling engine was discovered. It shows the engine before minor modifications were made to the venier wheel. See registration number 141 (engine) and registration number 144 (spectroscope).

Minot and Murphy (Boston) learned of Whipple's work and gave liver to patients with pernicious anaemia and cured them. Awarded the Nobel Prize for their work. Later William Castle (Boston) discovered the intrinsic factor responsible for the absorption of B 12.
