Brief Description

Set of minor operation instruments comprising fifteen instruments, one packet of hare lip pins with ring heads, one packet of needles and three hooks on a chain. Made by Mathews, London c.1885.

History of Object

This case belonged to Dr. William Robert Fox of North Fitzroy. He graduated from Melbourne University in 1883 and was one the pioneers of Radiology in Melbourne. Fox completed 5th year at Melbourne Medical School, but went to the UK and graduated from Edinburgh RCP RCS, 1883. He returned to practice in Melbourne in 1884.

Brief Description

Two all-metal knives consisting of a small blade fashioned out of a thin bar of metal which is attached, at an angle, to the handle. Stored in a wooden box with a hinged lid. Box is molded inside to fit individual components.

History of Object

A note enclosed with objects suggests that the knives are tenotomy knives, however, they have characteristics which are more closely associated with aural knives.
