This amputation knife was originally donated to the Medical Society of Victoria (which later became part of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association). The A.M.A. donated its museum collection of documents and artefacts to the University of Melbourne in 1994.

This item belonged to Dr. Patrick Cody, who was a radiologist with a practice in Spring Street. Dr. Patrick Cody's sons Stephen and Damian Cody donated their father's medical instruments to the Medical History Museum on 10 October 1996.

This amputation saw belonged to the Echuca Hospital and was used from the 1920s to the c.1970s. Mr. Peter Phillips remembers using this saw for amputations. He donated the saw in August 1997.
