Silver suture for vesico-vaginal fistula

Brief Description Silver suture consisting of 5 parts: a needle, handle, holder and reel with wire "thread". Suture has a curved hollow silver needle which is attached to the shank by a screw mechanism. The shank is also made of silver and is hollow. The shank is screwed into a turned ebonite handle which can also be unscrewed and separated into two parts. Inside the wooden handle rests a brass reel wound with wire. The wire passes down the inside of the handle through a small hole, through the shank and out through the needle. History of Object Loan item: Barrie Thompson collection.
