History of Object Beaney was Surgeon at the Melbourne Hospital during the late nineteenth century. A flamboyant character, Beaney was well known for his champagne parties after operations at the hospital and bore the nickname "Diamond Jim". After his death he became the first benefactor to the Medical School at the University, the Beaney Scholarship in surgery being founded in his honour. The figurine shows him in operating attire.
