Brief Description Reproduction of the world's oldest dermatology prescription, after the original Sumerian, one dated c.2100 B.C., in cuneiform script. Mounted on wooden block. Also with accompanying pamphlet. History of Object Literal translation (from pamphlet): "Pour water over a dried and pulverised water-snake the amamashumkaskal-plant, the roots of the 'tjorn'-plant, pulverised naga, powdered fir-turpentine, (and) the faeces of the garib-bat; heat (the infusion) (and) wash (the sick spot) with this liquid; after washing with the liquid, rub with vegetable oil, (and) cover with shaki." Brief Description "The Sparklet CO2 Snow Apparatus Model 'C'" is a kit for producing a "snow pencil" or stick of dry ice for freezing off skin blemishes like warts. The apparatus comprises: one cylinder or "bulb" of carbon dioxide; holding tray for bulb; "expansion chamber", metal cylinder with long vulcanite neck which attaches onto holding tray and pierces bulb; rod for releasing cylindrical tube of dry ice; instruction booklet. History of Object This item was originally donated to the Medical Society of Victoria (which later became part of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association). The A.M.A. donated its historical collection of documents and artifacts to the University of Melbourne's Medical History Museum in 1994.
