The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences was established in 1991 to plan, conduct and administer curricula for students of medicine, dentistry and a variety of health sciences at the University of Melbourne. The Faculty came into existence as the Faculty of Medicine, established in 1876, fourteen years after medical training at the University of Melbourne started. In 1989 its long-standing relationship with dentistry was formalised, and a Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry was created. With the further expansion of its responsibilities in 1991 to include training in nursing, optometry and physiotherapy, the title of the Faculty changed once again to reflect its broader role. |
