Graeme Ryan had a long and close relationship with medicine at the University of Melbourne from the 1950s, when he started his medical training, to the 1990s when he completed a lengthy period of service as Dean. After graduating in medicine he was appointed Beaney Scholar in Pathology, 1963-65 and Lecturer in Pathology, 1965-68. He undertook further training overseas for a decade in London, Geneva and Boston, before winning an NHMRC Principal Research Fellowship which he undertook at the University of Melbourne, 1976-78. He was Professor of Anatomy 1978-95 and successively Dean of the Faculties of Medicine; Medicine and Dentistry; and Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences during the period 1986 to 1995. He was subsequently accorded the title Professor Emeritus. |
