The University of Melbourne Centre for Adolescent Health,was established in 1991
at the Royal Children's Hospital on the initiative of Dr John Court, a highly regarded paediatric physician , and Dr Barry Catchlove, the hospital's Chief Executive Officer 1981-90.

It was the first national academic centre in adolescent health and one of the first of its type internationally. It was concerned both with the mental and physical health of adolescents.

The first Director of the Centre was Dr Glenn Bowes who, in 2002, was appointed the University of Melbourne's Stevenson Professor of Paediatrics at the Royal Children's Hospital.
